Kihnu programme is financed from the Estonian state budget.
The grant can be applied on an on-going basis and only for the implementation of the projects entered to the list of the action plan to be confirmed by the programme council.
Objective of Kihnu programme
The objective of Kihnu programme is to support the development of Kihnu culture and continuation of traditions on the basis of the principles of the action plan submitted to UNESCO, enable the residents of Kihnu to preserve their traditions, communal lifestyle and deal with primeval fields of life.
Territorially the grant has been meant for the islands of Kihnu and Manija, their surrounding islets and Sorgu Island.
The 9- member programme council prepares the annual action plan for using the programme means. The council includes 2 representatives from Kihnu rural municipality, 2 representatives from Tõstamaa rural municipality, 2 representatives from the foundation Kihnu Cultural Room, 2 representatives from the foundation Kihnu Institute and 1 official appointed by Pärnu county governor.
Who can apply for the grant?
The applicants within the programme could be the non-profit associations and foundations operating in Kihnu and Manija, provided the activities planned in the are among the activities specified in the articles of association of these organisations, Kihnu rural municipality and Tõstamaa rural municipality, also non-profit associations and foundations, self-employed persons and entrepreneurs whose activities are directed to the achievement of the objectives of the programme.
For what the grant is provided?
The following is supported:
- Investments to the local infrastructure;
- Development and marketing of tourism products;
- Preservation and promotion of Kihnu culture.
How big is the grant?
The maximum amount of the grant is up to 2.5 million kroons per project and up to 85% of the eligible costs are compensated.
