The programme of local initiative is financed from the Estonian state budget. The applying is by rounds.
Objective of the local initiative grant
The objective of the grant is the local development and increase in the competitiveness of the regions through the involvement and strengthening of the community.
The programme is implemented in the whole Estonian territory in two target regions: 1) in the rural areas (the settlements with less than 2500 citizens) 2) in the urban areas (the settlements with more than 2500 citizens). The data of the Population Register as at 1 January 2011.
Who can apply for the grant?
The application can be submitted by the civil law partnerships acting in the public interests (excl. in the urban areas), non-profit associations and foundations not established with the participation of the local government or state and wherein the local government or state is not participating as the member.
For what the grant is provided?
The sectors of the programme are the training of the community members and planning of local development; valuation of local historical heritage and traditions; improvement of the local living environment.
How big is the grant?
The size of the grant for the projects of local importance is up to 1 600 €. The applicant-side self-financing or the co-financing of its cooperation partners should be involved in the projects within at least 10% of the total project cost.
The applications are submitted to the county government of the location of the implementation of the project within the due date up to 16.30 at the latest.
The deadline of the submission of the applications of I round of 2010 was 1 April, the deadline of submission of the applications of II round was 3 October.
Assistance from the county development centres regarding the project consultation is provided. The employees of the county governments provide information on the course of the processing of the applications who deal with the local initiative programme at the county level.
